Ghanaian musician late KK Kabobo revealed a distressing tale of betrayal that led to the collapse of a promising international deal.
In an exclusive interview on Okukuseku Talk Show monitored by News & Vibes, late Kabobo recounted how his budding career took a devastating blow when his errand boy, who had once been an errand boy for a fellow musician, sabotaged a lucrative opportunity with a white businessman from Germany.
Detailing the sequence of events, Kabobo explained how he travelled just to finalise the deal.
“So a white man came from Germany so when he came, someone introduced this my musician friend to him and the white man said he wanted to establish his business. I was introduced and others were introduced.”
“Later a promoter wanted to take me abroad, the white man saw the promoter had filed my posters abroad so he told me when I get abroad then I do one album for him so I discussed with him and we discussed the amount with him. So I even introduced the late Paapa Yankson to him, the day I was going abroad was when Paapa Yankson was also coming back and he told me about how the white man has been praising me. When I got there we had to do some rehearsals and some shows.”
He finally made arrangements to meet the white man and the man seemed very pleased with his music. In fact the son of the man who was present indicated that he prefered his music to Paapa Yankson.
“When I went to see the white man with my crew one day, they were listening to my music, one of the sons of the whiteman came to say something to the man. My promoter understands their language and he told me the son told him that he likes my voice more than Paapa Yankson and I said eiii.”
However, the man said he had reservations since someone from Ghana had called him to say his music is not worth investing in since Ghanaians don’t like his music.
“So we continued talking and the white man said he had something bad to tell me and that somebody called from Ghana says that if he invests in my music, he will run into debt because no one will buy in Ghana. The promoter was like what. He said the person is a trustworthy person.”
According to KK Kabobo, he was shocked but right there in his presence, the white man called the supposed trusted person and put the phone on loudspeaker.
“The man called the trustworthy person and was like Kabobo is here and I am telling him you said his music cannot sell so I shouldn’t invest (he didnt know I was listening and with the man at the moment) and he said yes I have told you that man don’t mind him, nobody knows him, he is just an underground musician and the white man said Kabobo is here, talk to him and he couldn’t talk again.”
The trusted person the whiteman was refering to was KK Kabobo’s errand boy.
“That errand boy of my friend who had also become my errand boy was the one who called the white man. He had the contact because the man was once in Ghana. I had spent money and time making the music and putting on disc. I lost my deal with the white man because of that.”
