Some residents of Kpandai in the Northern Region have expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn a Tamale High Court ruling that annulled the parliamentary election results for the constituency.

In an interview with Joy FM, following the court’s decision on January 28, 2026, one resident stated, “I am very excited at the court’s decision; peace will prevail.”

Another also stated, “We thank God for this victory. Matthew has retained his seat and there will be peace in Kpandai.”

The apex court, in a 4–1 majority decision, set aside the High Court judgment, effectively halting the Electoral Commission’s planned rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election.

Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, who presided as president of the panel, dissented.

The majority decision was delivered by Justices Yonny Kulendi, Amadu Tanko, Samuel Asiedu, and Henry Kwofie.

The ruling followed an application for certiorari filed by New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament Matthew Nyindam, who challenged the High Court’s authority to nullify his election.

Nyindam argued that the Tamale High Court lacked jurisdiction because the election petition filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal was submitted outside the legally mandated 21-day period.

According to him, the Kpandai parliamentary election results were gazetted on December 24, 2024, meaning the petition filed in January 2025 was time-barred under electoral laws.

The Supreme Court agreed with this argument, granting the application and restoring the validity of the election results.

The court indicated that full reasons for the decision will be made public on February 6, 2026.
