Husband of Agradaa Claims 15-Year Jail Sentence Is Divine Mission

Angel Asiamah, the husband of jailed evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, has taken a spiritual stance on her sentencing, calling it a divine mission rather than punishment. Speaking from the pulpit of the Heavenway Champion International Ministry, Asiamah addressed his congregation with a message of reassurance, framing his wife’s imprisonment as part of a higher calling.

According to him, Agradaa’s placement in Nsawam Prison serves a spiritual purpose — spreading the word of God within the prison walls. He likened the situation to a divine assignment that transcends the human interpretation of justice and punishment.

This reaction comes in the wake of the recent ruling by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah of the Circuit Court, which handed Agradaa a 15-year custodial sentence for defrauding by false pretences. The sentence also included a GH¢300 fine for engaging in what the court described as charlatanic advertisement. In default of the fine, an additional 30 days of jail time would apply.

Agradaa’s conviction stems from a 2022 televised broadcast in which she claimed she could double money for church members. The claims, made during an all-night service at her Weija-based ministry, allegedly lured congregants into surrendering their cash under false pretences.

Prior to sentencing, Agradaa underwent a pregnancy test, a procedure often conducted before custodial rulings for women. Ultimately, the court found that she had orchestrated her actions with precision and showed no signs of remorse, leading to the lengthy sentence.

Meanwhile, her legal team, led by Richard Asare Baffour, has announced plans to challenge the verdict. The appeal is expected to be filed soon at the Amasaman High Court, with the defence arguing that the sentence was excessive and the trial fundamentally flawed.

Adding a dramatic twist to the saga, popular Ghanaian entertainer Bukom Banku has publicly pleaded with former President John Mahama to intervene. In a video that has gained traction online, Bukom Banku expressed emotional distress over the conviction and called on Mahama to consider the case personally.
