“I Am Not on the Run” – Former GIIF CEO Responds to Accusations By Attorney General Over Skytrain Scandal

Published:

Former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) CEO, Solomon Asamoah, has strongly refuted claims that he is evading authorities in Senegal, dismissing Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine’s allegations as “false and baseless.”

According to Asamoah, his presence in Senegal is strictly for official board meetings that were scheduled well in advance, not an attempt to flee from any investigation.

Asamoah, who left Ghana on March 21, insists he has spent considerable time in the country over the past months and was never contacted by any government official regarding the accusations before his departure.

He revealed that it was only after leaving that an official from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) reached out to request an online meeting, which has been scheduled for March 26.

The allegations against him are linked to the controversial $2 million payment made for the now-abandoned Accra Skytrain project.

The funds were reportedly transferred to a non-existent company in Mauritius without GIIF board approval, prompting scrutiny from the Attorney General’s office. Dr. Ayine suggested that Asamoah had fled Ghana and was tracked from South Africa to Senegal.

Denying any wrongdoing, Asamoah asserted that his leadership at GIIF was defined by transparency, integrity, and accountability.

He pointed to the fund’s financial success during his tenure, stating that it generated over GHS 2.5 billion in cumulative net profits—more than double the government’s initial investment of GHS 1.2 billion.

Asamoah has assured that he will return to Ghana soon and cooperate fully with investigations.

However, the Attorney General has warned that if he fails to do so, legal proceedings will continue in his absence.
