Dancer Champion Rolie in an interview with Delay has said that growing up, he wanted to be a footballer, but things didn’t go as planned because his father stood in his way of going for trials.
“At first, my focus was football, but things didn’t go as planned. It got to a point where I needed to go and do trials somewhere, but my father didn’t let me because he wanted me to go to school. It felt, at that time, that the football dream wouldn’t be realized because the passion changed to more focus on dance.”
He explained that when he failed in the football area, his passion changed, and it suddenly brought him joy whenever he saw people dance. This change occurred after Senior High School.
He decided to attend dance classes to better his craft.
“So I started dance classes. At that time, Zigi and Mr. Drew used to do dance classes that I saw on the internet, so I went to join at Dzowulu. I met a friend there, and once he told me that Dance God and … had started some dance classes, so if I was interested, I should go because they knew… It was 30gh a day. The group was later named DWP.”
Champion Rolie has been dancing professionally for the past six years.
