Ghana international Andre Ayew has revealed his motive to move to the Dutch League was to continue playing at the highest level.
Ayew joined NAC Breda during the January transfer window on a deal until the end of the season, having been involved in personal training since being released by Le Havre.
The 36-year-old had become a free agent after his contract with the Ligue 1 side expired at the end of last season. He featured in 27 league games for the club, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
The forward says the rationale behind his move to the Eredivisie was to challenge himself after his spell in France.
“I am a footballer, and I always want to play at the highest level. The Dutch league is a very good league, technically, physically…,” he said in an interview with ESPN.
“I was looking at challenging myself again, like I did in Le Havre the last two years, where I could bring something to the table and where the belief is mutual from both sides.
“The club has big objectives for now and the future, and for me, it was important to feel the desire from the club, from the coach, which was very important and the fan base. I am a player who plays a lot with energy, and the fans behind me, so when you are in a club where you have a good fan base and a stadium that makes noise, it’s better for me.”
Since his move to NAC Breda, Ayew has featured six times for the club in the league, starting just one of those games.
