Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Evangelist Sonnie Badu, has opened up about a painful chapter in his life following the loss of his two toes in a house accident.
According to the celebrated gospel icon, the incident plunged him into a deep state of depression, a period he says still affects him emotionally because he does not fully understand how or why it happened.
“I went into a dark time in my life, yet I was still preaching. I went into serious depression,” Sonnie Badu disclosed.
He explained that despite battling inner pain, he continued to minister publicly, even though privately he was struggling to cope with the trauma.
“Sometimes I would turn off my office light and sit in the dark for about six hours without saying a word to anyone. I would only go out to preach and minister, then come back to the room,” he recounted.
The gospel minister added that the incident left him confused and emotionally broken, as he could not fully comprehend how the accident occurred.
“I still don’t understand how it happened,” he said.

A few days before his Rhythm of Africa concert on December 9, 2023, Evangelist Sonnie Badu was involved in a domestic accident that resulted in the loss of his toes.
The incident sparked widespread speculation on social media, with some suggesting the injury was a publicity stunt aimed at generating attention for the concert. However, Sonnie Badu strongly dismissed the claims, firmly denying that the accident was staged for promotional purposes.
