THE Tsenku Hiking Club at Obosomase in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region has handed over a fully furnished Information and Communications Technology (ICT) laboratory to the Tutu Methodist Junior High School.

The GH¢150,000 30-seater ICT laboratory is equipped with 21 sets of desktop computers, 40 student desks and chairs, a projector, a printer to help improve in the  teaching and learning of ICT.

At a ceremony to officially hand over the facility, the Vice-President of the club, Anita Budu, said the laboratory, which had been equipped with Internet connectivity was aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in computer science and digital literacy.

Charitable efforts

She indicated that the laboratory project was part of the club’s charitable efforts to improve education in local communities through access to digital learning in the area.

Mrs Budu said the facility was funded through donations from individual members with support from corporate sponsor Star Oil Ghana during the club’s 2025 Madness Walk Project.

She told the gathering that the club’s project impact had grown steadily over the years and that in the year 2019, it had also made donations of about 90 pieces of desks and chairs to the Akuapem-Obosomase Methodist Basic School.

The laboratory facility, Mrs Budu said, was expected to enhance the academic performance of students, foster innovation and prepare them for the digital age.

“The donation marks a significant milestone, access to fully functional laboratory is no longer a distant aspiration, but a present reality.”

“In communities where resources are limited, this project represents a meaningful step towards expanding educational opportunities and shaping future potentials and dreams of students in the near future”, Mrs Budu told the gathering.

The headteacher of Tutu Methodist Junior High School, Prosper Agbawu, said the ICT laboratory would serve as a centre for learning, innovation and digital skills development.

Knowledge & skills

He said in such a rapidly evolving world where technology played a crucial role in education and opportunity, the laboratory would help bridge the digital literacy gap and equip the students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Mr Agbawu expressed the school’s gratitude to the club for the gesture, adding that the support and participation highlighted the importance of the project to transform the community.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, pledged to provide adequate security and pay them to enhance the safety and protection of students since stealing was ongoing in the school.

Mr Awuku said he was happy to also support education drive by partnering such local organisations as well as the Ghana Education Service (GES) to Improve on education infrastructure, especially ICT laboratories, libraries as well as donating learning materials to boost access to education.
