Ghana’s Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has responded to public calls for a timetable on the country’s unpredictable power outages by suggesting that citizens create one themselves. In a video circulated on social media, he dismissed the need for an official timeline, noting that the power distributor claims the current situation does not warrant it. His remarks came across as a cheeky reply to a journalist’s question.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also addressed claims that Ghana is returning to the era of “dumsor” under the current administration, emphasizing that the energy sector’s performance under the NPP is significantly better than during John Dramani Mahama’s tenure. He described ongoing efforts to improve the sector and stated that after four years under NPP leadership, the energy sector’s efficiency is “300 times better” than before.

Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has given the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) a deadline of April 2 to release a load-shedding timetable. ECG, however, continues to insist that there is no dumsor, highlighting the ongoing disagreement over the nation’s power situation.
