Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is free to pursue a review of the Supreme Court’s decision that restored his mandate, but insists the verdict remains firm and cannot be overturned.
Responding to questions about the NDC’s indication that it may seek a review of the ruling, Mr Nyindam said he was unfazed by the possibility of further legal action.
“Well, it’s not up to me to say I’m ready or I’m not ready. In the first place, I was not already ready to go to court. I won my election with almost 4,000 votes. For whatever reason, they dragged me to court.
“Today, the Supreme Court has affirmed my victory that I won the election and that they filed out of time, and I’ve been reinstated as the MP for Kpandai. If they still think they have a good case and want to drag me back to court, who am I to say no?” he said in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday.
His comments follow the NDC’s insistence that the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate Matthew Nyindam as Member of Parliament for Kpandai does not close the legal chapter on the constituency’s 2024 parliamentary election and suggested that constitutional and legal avenues remain open.
Mr Nyindam expressed confidence in the apex court’s decision, stressing that it was grounded firmly in law.
“I’m a law-abiding citizen, but I’m very sure that what the Supreme Court has done cannot be overturned because the law is the law, and I’m sure they applied it,” he said.
According to him, all the arguments raised by the NDC had already been fully canvassed before the court and carefully considered by the justices.
“All the issues they spoke about were argued in court by their lawyer. The Supreme Court examined all their arguments and ours, and they gave a majority decision,” Mr Nyindam stated.
