IGP deploys reinforcement teams to Nalerigu after violent attacks

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and surrounding areas in the North East Region.

The move comes after some youth reportedly set ablaze two houses and issued threats to burn more properties and attack residents.

This was contained in a statement issued by the police on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its environs in the North East Region following the setting ablaze of two houses by some youth in the regional capital, Nalerigu and threats to burn more houses and attack citizens of Nalerigu”, it said.

According to the North East Regional Police Command, the deployment aims to restore calm, protect lives and property, and strengthen enforcement of the curfew imposed by the government in Nalerigu and its environs.

“The deployment is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and beefing up security in the affected communities as well as enforcing the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government”, the statement said.

It further noted that the reinforcement teams will also support highway security to ensure the safety of commuters in the region.

“The teams will also support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security on the highways to ensure safety of commuters”, it noted.

The police reaffirmed its committed to maintaining law and order in the affected communities.
