Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun has reassured his congregation of his continued commitment to ministry, despite temporarily stepping back from preaching, following the failure of his prophetic declaration concerning the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries to materialise.
Speaking to worshippers during a church service, the prophet said he felt it was necessary to address several issues openly before the service ended.
He grounded his remarks in the teachings of his own book, School of Prophecy, drawing particular attention to Chapter 16, titled “When a Prophet Misses It”.
According to him, the book, written several years ago but released last year, outlines the appropriate response when a prophetic word does not come to pass.
Prophet Nelson-Eshun stressed that he does not require encouragement from members of the church in moments such as this. Rather, he said he expects accountability and integrity from both himself and the congregation.
“I am not the kind of pastor who needs encouragement. I need you, as members of this family, to hold me to integrity and to what I said the Lord showed me,” he told the congregation.
He disclosed that he has subjected himself to the accountability process outlined in his book and has issued two formal statements in response to the failed prophecy.
The first, he said, was a brief public apology, while the second was a statement of accountability. He explained that everything he intended to communicate at this stage had been captured in those statements and urged members to carefully consider their content.
While acknowledging that he cannot influence how individuals respond or react, Prophet Nelson-Eshun assured the congregation that he remains present and has not abandoned his calling.
He noted that he was neither asking congregants to remain nor encouraging them to leave the church.
“I am not going to ask you to stay, neither am I asking you to leave,” he said, adding that his actions were guided by humility and responsibility. “But I will be back.”
As part of his accountability measures, the prophet announced that he would temporarily refrain from preaching.
He said that although he would continue to attend church services, he would not minister from the pulpit for several weeks.
According to him, this decision was consistent with what he has taught over the years about taking responsibility when things go wrong.
In his remarks, Prophet Nelson-Eshun reminded congregants of two principles he described as essential, regardless of circumstances.
He urged them never to lose their faith in God and belief in Jesus Christ, and never to lose their sense of self and personal integrity.
“Never lose God, and never lose yourself,” he said, warning that losing one’s identity could be more damaging than public criticism or disappointment.
He ended his address by thanking the congregation for listening and reaffirming his intention to return to active preaching at the appropriate time.
