Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka is the Minister of the Interior

The Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has provided a detailed account of how Ghanaian tomato traders were caught up in a terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Speaking on JoyNews and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, February 16, 2026, he described the incident as a “very sad situation” with significant loss of life and injuries.

According to the minister, the traders were attacked in one town, resulting in targeted killings.

“Our traders trade among sister countries and this particular one they were going for tomatoes and they go in their own truck. They were in this particular town and the jihadist run into them and started rounding up everybody, unfortunately our traders were attacked. They started targeting the males,” he remarked.

Burkina Faso Terrorist Attack: 7 Ghanaians reportedly killed

Muntaka confirmed that among those on one truck were ten men, including the driver, and eight women.

“Unfortunately, seven men lost their lives, and three others were injured. Some women were affected but not seriously injured,” he said.

In response to the incident, he said the area has been cordoned off, and the minister stated that he has been in communication with his counterpart in Burkina Faso to manage the situation, provide aid, and ensure the safe passage of survivors.

“The bodies of victims in the southern regions had begun to decompose, and arrangements were made for their burial,” Muntaka explained.

He noted that Ghanaian officials wished to witness the burials to ensure transparency, though access has been challenging due to security concerns.

“…What they told us, [is that] they will bury them today… our women who are going there should go and witness and take as many pictures as they can as possible.

“They promised us that after the [burial], they will try [and get] their military, to create a safe passage, to move those who are injured to our mission in Ouagadougou,” he added.
