The interior ministry to conduct phased vetting for diaspora citizenship seekers

The Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President have announced that vetting for applicants seeking Ghanaian citizenship under the “Historic Diaspora Community” initiative will begin on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the ministry explained that the process will be conducted in phases to ensure order and efficiency.

Applicants are, therefore, being urged to remain patient and wait for official notifications indicating their specific vetting dates before visiting the centre.

The exercise will take place at the Dubois Centre at Cantonments, Accra.

The statement added that authorities are cautioning that only applicants who have received scheduled appointments should report to the venue, in order to prevent overcrowding and unnecessary inconvenience.

The government says the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to reconnecting with the African diaspora and strengthening ties with people of African descent who seek to formalise their connection to Ghana.

According to the statement, the government remains dedicated to granting Ghanaian citizenship to all qualified applicants under the programme, describing it as a significant step in deepening Ghana’s diaspora engagement efforts.

“The Government of Ghana is committed to granting Ghanaian citizenship to all qualified applicants as part of its diaspora affairs initiative,” the statement said.

For many applicants, it is believed that the vetting will mark not just a bureaucratic process, but an emotional and historic journey toward officially calling Ghana home.

TO ALL MEDIA HOUSES

The Ministry of the Interior and the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President announce the Vetting of the Granting of Citizenship for the “Historic Diaspora Community”.

Applicants for the Historic Diaspora Community will be scheduled in batches for vetting at the Dubois Centre, Cantonments in Accra, starting February 11, 2026.

Applicants are also advised to wait for notification on their vetting schedule from the Ministry before visiting the centre to avoid overcrowding.

The Ministry acknowledges that due to the overwhelming number of applicants and the limited time frame for the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for 5th March 2026, not all interested persons will be able to participate in the process.

The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office, assures all interested persons that the citizenship process remains open via  registration, and no one will be disadvantaged.

The Government of Ghana is committed to granting Ghanaian citizenship to all qualified applicants as part of its diaspora affairs initiative.
