Iran has confirmed the killing of senior security figure Ali Larijani in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between Iran and Israel.

Larijani, who headed Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was considered one of the most powerful figures in the country’s leadership and a key architect of its security strategy.

His death comes just days after he publicly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump and dismissed recent attacks as acts of “desperation.”

Iranian authorities confirmed he was killed in an overnight strike, while Israeli military sources described him as a central decision-maker responsible for directing regional operations.

His death is the latest in a series of high-profile losses for Iran’s leadership amid the ongoing conflict. Reports also indicate that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been killed, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei emerging as successor, though he has not been seen publicly since the escalation began.

Larijani was last seen during the annual Quds Day march in Tehran, an event symbolizing Iran’s longstanding opposition to Israel. His killing is expected to further heighten regional instability and uncertainty.
