The Public Relations Officer for Ghanaians living in Qatar, Eric Siaw Martey, says the situation in the country following Iran’s missile attack is not as frightening as it has been portrayed on social media.
Speaking in an interview on GTV Current Agenda Show on Saturday March 7, 2026, Mr. Martey explained that although Ghanaian residents in Qatar are aware of the security situation, authorities have put systems in place to keep people safe and well informed.
According to him, whenever the security level rises, residents receive text messages from the Ministry of Interior advising them to remain indoors until the situation is under control.
He noted that many of the fears circulating online are exaggerated. “The way the situation has been projected on social media is not what we are experiencing here. Yes, we are aware of the missile situation, but when the security level goes up, the Ministry of Interior sends us messages asking us to remain indoors,” he said.
Mr. Martey added that some initial panic among Ghanaians was largely due to unfamiliarity with such incidents, since many people in Ghana have never experienced missile interceptions before.
He explained that the loud sounds often heard in the area are mostly from missile interceptions and not from missiles hitting the ground.
“At first people were worried when they heard loud sounds because they did not know whether something had landed. But authorities later explained that the sounds are from interceptions, not explosions,” he stated.
Mr. Martey also disclosed that there are more than 12,000 Ghanaians currently living and working in Qatar, according to information from the Ghana Embassy.
He said the Ghanaian community in Qatar has established several communication channels to keep members informed about developments.
He also stated that the Ghanaian association uses social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook and a WhatsApp channel to share updates and hold live discussions with members whenever new information emerges.
In addition, the association collaborates with Ghanaian churches in Qatar, including the Church of Pentecost and the Ebenezer Interdenominational Church, to ensure that important information reaches as many Ghanaians as possible.
Mr. Martey further indicated that the group works closely with the Ghana Embassy in Doha, which receives updates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.
He said the embassy regularly briefs the Ghanaian community about the latest developments, which are then communicated to members through the association’s platforms.
According to him, the goal is to ensure that Ghanaians in Qatar remain calm, informed and safe as authorities manage the situation.
