Ja Rule’s Ghana School Project Draws Criticism Over ‘Underwhelming’ Appearance

Published:

Ghanaian media personality and entertainment analyst Vida Adutwumwaa has expressed disappointment over the newly constructed school in Ghana by American rapper Ja Rule, describing it as lacking the visual and structural appeal expected from someone of his international status.

During a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, Adutwumwaa argued that while the effort to support education in Ghana is commendable, the final structure delivered does not match the legacy or brand image of Ja Rule.

She questioned how a global music icon could present a facility that, in her view, appears substandard in both design and finish.

Adutwumwaa highlighted specific issues with the building, notably pointing out an exposed ceiling, which she said symbolized a lack of attention to detail.

According to her, the criticism directed at the project should not be misinterpreted as ingratitude but rather as genuine concern and surprise from Ghanaians who expected a more impressive structure given the artist’s stature.

To emphasize her point, she compared Ja Rule’s contribution with that of comedian and actor Michael Blackson, who previously built a school in Ghana.

She claimed Blackson’s project reflected a more befitting architectural standard and overall presentation, despite the comedian being perceived to have a smaller global footprint than Ja Rule.

Ja Rule recently visited Ghana to commission a six-unit classroom block for Nuaso St John’s Anglican School, a gesture that was widely praised for its generosity and social impact.

However, since the unveiling, online discussions have surfaced criticizing the building’s old-fashioned design and lack of modern features, with some questioning whether the project truly reflects the kind of influence and resources typically associated with international celebrities.

Despite the backlash from some quarters, others have lauded Ja Rule for taking concrete steps to invest in education in Ghana, while acknowledging that the concerns raised may also open the door for improvements in future philanthropic projects.
