The Jospong Group of Companies has announced plans to re-engage retired employees to support the training of new workers across its expanding operations in Africa.
The initiative targets former staff who have officially retired but possess specialised technical expertise. Rather than returning to their previous roles, they will be re-employed as industry experts to transfer skills and institutional knowledge to new employees across 25 African countries.
The move follows the Group’s expansion into several African markets in 2025 and the growing demand for experienced personnel to support operations, particularly in technical areas such as waste management and machinery operations.
Speaking at the 2026 Jospong Leadership Conference, Chairman Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong highlighted the critical role of experience in sustaining the company’s growth on the continent.
“During our 2025 end-of-year engagements, I visited some of our workers and realised that many of our most experienced technicians—mechanics and waste management experts—were preparing to retire,” he said.
“I told them they are not retiring yet, because the 25 other countries we are expanding into need people with hands-on knowledge of our machines to train others. So in 2026, the Group will prioritise bringing back retirees to help train new workers.”
Dr Agyepong further urged young employees to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from the seasoned professionals while they still can.
He emphasised that the strategy is not only about growth but also about preserving expertise, building capacity across Africa, and ensuring sustainable operations within the Group.
