The High Court in Koforidua has found Akwatia’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, in contempt.
His unwillingness to abide by an interim injunction that forbade him from taking the oath of office as a lawmaker is the reason behind this decision.
Because Kumi did not show up for sentence, the presiding judge, Justice Senyo Amedahe, also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Previously, while a legal issue was pending, the court had prohibited the legislator from taking the oath of office. Kumi was sworn in as a member of Parliament in defiance of this directive.
The judge maintained that Kumi had disregarded the court’s jurisdiction notwithstanding the Minority in Parliament’s official letter explaining his absence from the session.
As things stand, authorities are supposed to make his arrest and make sure the court’s decision is followed.
