Kennedy Agyapong, aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has raised concerns over security ahead of the party’s upcoming internal election scheduled for January 31, 2026, which will determine its candidate for the 2028 general elections.

The former Assin Central lawmaker warned that intelligence indicates some individuals may attempt to disrupt the electoral process through intimidation or violence.

He stressed that anyone attempting to do so would face decisive action.

“They cannot intimidate anyone with threats of violence,” Agyapong told delegates, urging vigilance and swift intervention to prevent any unlawful activities.

He further emphasised that all other presidential aspirants have a responsibility to alert relevant authorities to potential security threats.

“Silence on these developments undermines the credibility of the party’s democratic processes and could heighten tensions ahead of the vote,” he said.

Agyapong concluded by highlighting that the integrity of the NPP’s flagbearer election, and confidence in democratic competition more broadly, relies on immediate measures to ensure that intimidation, unauthorised force, or organised violence have no place in the process.
