Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has expressed strong confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will reclaim power in the 2028 elections.
Speaking to members of the party’s student wing, the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), Agyapong emphasized that unity among party members is crucial for success in the next election.
Addressing the gathering, he urged supporters not to be discouraged by the party’s loss in the 2024 elections. He insisted that with a collective effort and strategic planning, the NPP would position itself for a strong comeback.
Agyapong, a businessman and politician known for his bold statements, reiterated his commitment to the party’s future, confidently stating that he is prepared to play a leading role in securing victory.
His signature “showdown” phrase made an appearance, signaling his readiness for the political battles ahead.
Having previously contested for the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2024 elections, Agyapong was one of the top contenders but lost to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
However, Bawumia failed to secure the presidency in the 2024 elections, losing to former President John Dramani Mahama.
With the next election cycle on the horizon, Agyapong and Bawumia are expected to be major contenders in the NPP’s 2028 primaries.
Party insiders anticipate a competitive race for leadership as both figures position themselves for the challenge ahead.
As the NPP begins strategizing for its return to power, Agyapong’s call for unity and determination has set the tone for what could be an intense political journey leading up to 2028.
