The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Abena Osei-Asare, has publicly declared her support for former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

In an interview on Good Evening Ghana on January 13, 2026, Osei-Asare, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, said she believes Agyapong is the best candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

She explained that Agyapong enjoys strong backing from grassroots members of the NPP, who view him as a leader capable of restoring discipline within the party. She added that Ghanaians are seeking a practical, results-driven leader who can improve the country’s fortunes.

“Currently, the sentiments around the country are that they want someone pragmatic, who says it as it is, and someone who can bring discipline to our party. Personally, I feel the discipline level in our party has declined. Every party has structures and systems, and of late, these systems are not working as they should. Ken Agyapong stands for honesty and discipline,” she said.

Osei-Asare, a former Minister of State in charge of Finance, further noted that Agyapong’s focus on job creation makes him an appealing candidate, particularly for young voters.

“Looking at voting patterns in the country, the youth make up a significant portion of the electorate, and they often do not stick to one party. They want jobs and opportunities. Ken Agyapong speaks to this by highlighting employment prospects and practical solutions for the youth,” she added.
