Kennedy Agyapong is former Member of Parliament for Assin Central
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed deep sorrow over the reported terrorist attack in Burkina Faso that claimed the lives of innocent people, including some Ghanaians.
In a statement posted on his X page on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Agyapong extended condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that no family should have to endure.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones in this senseless act of violence. No family should have to endure such pain, and as a nation we share in your grief,” he wrote.
Agyapong further urged the government of Ghana to collaborate closely with Burkinabe authorities and regional partners to ensure the safety of Ghanaians living and working beyond the country’s borders.
He said that terrorism and extremism continue to pose serious threats to peace within the sub-region, and called for strengthened regional cooperation, enhanced intelligence sharing, and decisive security interventions to safeguard lives.
He concluded his statement with a prayer for the souls of the departed and a message of solidarity.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. Ghana mourns with you,” he added.
In all, 8 Ghanaians, who were in Burkina Faso to purchase tomatoes, were killed in the attack.
Those who survived the attack have since been evacuated by the Ghana Armed Forces back home.
