Authorities in Kenya have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of orchestrating a cyber fraud operation that resulted in the theft of more than $88,000 from a betting company.

The suspect, identified as Seth Mwabe, allegedly gained access to the company’s internal systems while presenting himself as a cybersecurity consultant. Investigators say the breach was executed through a series of unauthorized transactions that diverted funds from the company’s accounts.

A search of Mwabe’s residence led to the discovery of equipment believed to have supported the operation. Items recovered included a money-counting machine, a secure safe, and a fully equipped computer lab. Digital forensic teams are analyzing the devices to determine how the breach was carried out and whether additional individuals were involved.

Mwabe, who left university during his second year, claims to have been active in cybersecurity since 2017. In 2019, he participated in a cybersecurity challenge organized by a local bank, which he reportedly won. Authorities are reviewing his past activities to assess whether similar breaches have occurred elsewhere.

The suspect is currently in police custody. Investigators are working to trace the stolen funds and dismantle any networks connected to the operation. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has not ruled out the possibility of international links, and efforts are underway to examine cryptocurrency transactions and digital communication platforms associated with the case.
