A violent altercation has rocked the Kinbu Senior High Technical School community after a first-year student was taken into police custody for allegedly stabbing a fellow student to death during a gambling session gone wrong.
According to initial reports from school authorities, the incident unfolded when the victim and several classmates left their classrooms during lessons to engage in gambling at an unfinished classroom block located off school grounds. It was in this secluded setting that a heated dispute reportedly broke out, escalating to a fatal stabbing.
Rather than alerting teachers or school management, the group of students is believed to have attempted to handle the crisis themselves. Witnesses say they carried the bleeding victim over a section of the school fence before rushing him to a nearby hospital. The desperate effort, however, did not save the student’s life.
The school management only became aware of the unfolding tragedy when food vendors stationed outside the premises noticed the unusual movement of students and raised the alarm. By the time staff pieced together the details, the victim had already been pronounced dead.
Authorities have yet to release the names of those involved, but the suspected assailant has reportedly been detained by the Ghana Police Service. Meanwhile, the Kinbu SHS administration is working closely with law enforcement, the Klottey Korle Municipal Education Directorate, and the Greater Accra Regional Education Directorate to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The school has vowed to cooperate fully with the investigation and ensure that the victim’s family receives both justice and support. The shocking incident has sparked renewed debate over student safety, the lure of gambling among teenagers, and the need for stronger supervision during school hours.
