With anticipation building for the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), conversations about who deserves the coveted Artiste of the Year title have reached boiling point.
While fans and stakeholders continue to push for their favourites, a heated clash has erupted between rapper King Paluta and media personality DJ Slim.
The tension began after DJ Slim took to social media to voice his stance on who he believes deserves to win the prestigious award.
In his opinion, if the honour goes to anyone outside of Stonebwoy or King Promise, it would be a failure on the part of the award organizers. He suggested that artistes who show little interest in the award scheme shouldn’t expect to be recognized.
This statement did not sit well with King Paluta, who fired back in frustration.
The rapper questioned the logic behind awarding musicians based on public relations efforts instead of actual achievements and performance metrics.
He slammed DJ Slim’s take as unprofessional and called for people with such attitudes to be removed from the music industry altogether.
The online back-and-forth has stirred intense reactions, with some siding with DJ Slim’s views on participation and industry engagement, while others agree with King Paluta’s defense of merit-based recognition.
As the awards night approaches, all eyes are on the TGMA board to see how they will navigate the growing public scrutiny—and which artiste will ultimately walk away with the year’s top honour.

Fada ! This be loose talk !!
So they should award based on PR and not metrics?
If someone doesn’t campaign and he deserves it, they shouldn’t give it to him ??
Dem for delete you all from the industry. https://t.co/BDfdb9U2Nf— King Paluta (@KingPalutaMusic) May 8, 2025
