A group known as the Kintampo Native Defence Family has opened up about the unusual lifestyle choices and spiritual practices they believe strengthen their ability to guard traditional palaces across Ghana. The men, who come from a variety of ethnic groups and regions, serve as security personnel during installations, ceremonies, and other cultural events where chiefs require protection.
Their accounts, shared during an interview on Poleeno Multimedia’s YouTube platform, offered a rare glimpse into a world where physical endurance and supernatural fortification are viewed as essential tools of the trade.
One of the guards, who goes by the name Adeibi, described habits that he sees as proof of resilience. He said he rarely bathes—sometimes going months without doing so—adding that maintaining a rugged appearance is, in his view, part of what defines toughness. He also spoke about his earlier years, claiming that he often found himself in fights and stopped attending school after an altercation with a teacher.
The commander of the group, Odumgya Osei Akoto, explained that their membership spans different tribes, with each person recruited for palace protection duties. He said their roles often involve confronting spiritual threats, and that they believe they undergo special preparation to withstand these challenges.
Other members described what they consider extraordinary abilities. A guard identified as Karim suggested that the group is resistant to weapons such as knives, arrows, shotguns and automatic rifles. Another member, Abdulla Karim, referenced clothing worn by one of the guards, claiming it functions as a locally made protective shield. Junior Shaker, another member, echoed these claims, attributing their perceived strength to spiritual power rather than physical attributes.
The group maintains that their intense routines, along with what they believe to be supernatural fortification, enable them to carry out their duties during royal installations and cultural ceremonies where palace security must remain firm and unwavering.
