The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has dismissed media claims of friction between his office and the Attorney General (AG), Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, assuring the public that the relationship remains professional and collaborative.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Agyebeng emphasized that the OSP and the AG’s office continue to work closely on ongoing extradition and prosecution processes, including the high-profile case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He described rumors suggesting tension as misleading and stressed that both institutions are fully committed to due process and accountability.

Agyebeng clarified that questions about the sharing of dockets are beside the point, highlighting that the focus is on handling cases correctly from the outset, rather than back-and-forth procedural issues.

He also recounted the timeline of Ofori-Atta’s case, noting that the former Finance Minister was first identified as a suspect by the OSP in January 2025 in connection with alleged irregularities in contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), National Cathedral expenditures, and issues surrounding health and tax refund operations. Ofori-Atta was declared a fugitive in February 2025 after repeatedly failing to comply with OSP summonses.

His fugitive status was briefly lifted after assurances from his lawyers, but reinstated in June 2025 when he failed to appear, prompting the OSP to pursue extradition while maintaining the Interpol Red Notice.

Ten months later, Ofori-Atta has yet to be arrested in the United States or voluntarily return to Ghana.

Kissi Agyebeng reiterated that the OSP and the Attorney General’s office remain united in their mission to ensure justice and accountability, keeping their focus on the investigation without distractions.
