The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has banned the sale of explosive materials within the Kumasi City Market and its environs with immediate effect.
The move aims to safeguard lives and properties from fire and prevent disasters.
This affects the sale of carbide, petrol (gasoline), acid, gas, black powder, smokeless powder, and other highly inflammable substances.
The Assembly has given traders of such products until March 1, 2026, to remove the stock from their shops and relocate to the Racecourse Market.
In a statement, it noted that a security task force will be deployed to enforce the new measure.
“Pursuant to this directive, a team of security task force, comprising military, fire, police, NADMO, and national security personnel, will visit the various shops in the market to embark on a massive operation to bring recalcitrant traders to book.”
