The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reiterated its decision to demolish all unauthorised structures around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi by Monday, April 6, 2026, as part of efforts to restore order and improve the environment around the stadium.
In a reminder notice to the public, the Assembly referred to its earlier statement issued on February 5, 2026, which announced an extension of the initial demolition deadline following appeals from traditional and regional authorities.
The Assembly stressed that the decision to sanitize the enclave around the stadium remains firm.
“The KMA Management wishes to reiterate its commitment to sanitizing the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by demolishing all undesirable structures by Monday, 6th April 2026.”
According to the statement, the extension of the original demolition date followed appeals made during a meeting of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC). The meeting involved Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, together with traditional leaders Nana Adu Mensah Asare, Amakomhene, and Nana Baffour Kofi Atobra, Dadiesoabahene.
The Assembly explained that the leaders requested additional time for affected occupants to relocate their structures, a request that was accepted.
However, KMA has now urged owners of the affected structures to voluntarily remove them before the deadline to avoid forced demolition.
“Owners of these structures are advised to voluntarily remove them before 6th April 2026, as the decision to restore order and the aesthetic value of the Stadium is non-negotiable.”
Meanwhile, the Assembly has also dismissed reports that money is being collected from affected persons in exchange for protection from the demolition exercise.
KMA said it has received information that some individuals are allegedly taking GH¢1,500 from occupants, claiming the money would be given to the Mayor to halt the demolition.
“We state without equivocation that no such money has been received and would not be entertained by the Mayor and KMA.”
KMA is therefore urging the public to disregard such claims and cooperate with authorities to ensure a peaceful and smooth exercise ahead of the demolition deadline.
