KOD Opposes Calls for Tribute Songs to Daddy Lumba, Says Late Icon Already Wrote His Farewell

Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs and seasoned broadcaster Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has cautioned Ghanaian musicians and industry stakeholders against producing tribute songs in memory of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

Taking a firm stance on the matter, KOD used his Facebook platform to discourage the growing chorus of voices urging the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to coordinate a posthumous homage through music. According to him, no tribute track could ever match the power of Lumba’s own timeless creations.

He emphasized that Daddy Lumba’s extensive discography already serves as a complete reflection of his life and artistry. For KOD, any attempt to create a new tribute would be unnecessary and fall short of capturing the true spirit of the man who shaped Ghana’s music landscape for decades.

This comment comes as plans unfold for the late musician’s one-week observance and eventual funeral rites, with fans and fellow artists alike considering various ways to honour his legacy. While musical tributes have become a staple after the passing of major talents, KOD insists that in Daddy Lumba’s case, his own songs remain the best tribute possible.

Daddy Lumba, known offstage as Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, leaving behind a monumental legacy of hit songs, cultural impact, and musical excellence that many believe cannot—and should not—be replicated or summarized through a tribute.
