Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the Founder and Leader of the Liberal People’s Party (LPG), has described his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as surprisingly comfortable, likening it to a personal retreat rather than punishment.
Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on Friday, September 12, 2025, the politician revealed that he was treated to restaurant-style meals from Movenpick in the evenings and Starbites breakfasts each morning. According to him, the experience was so convenient that he often placed requests for his preferred dishes during his stay.
Akpaloo further noted that the detention conditions provided him with unusual comfort and privacy. He was given his own room complete with a private washroom, which he compared to living in his own home.
Reflecting on the unexpected benefits, he admitted that the enforced break gave him space to rethink his habits, particularly his heavy reliance on social media. He described the time as a “good exercise” that helped him temporarily detach from his phone and online activity.
Akpaloo had been arrested in a dawn raid at his Kumasi residence by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit, working alongside its Ashanti Regional Office. He is currently under investigation for multiple financial offences, including fraud, money laundering, falsification of documents, dissipation of public funds, and causing financial loss to the state in connection with a private contract dispute.
