- LPG presidential candidate Kofi Akpaloo is under investigation for serious financial crimes, including fraud and money laundering.
- Arrested by EOCO on September 3, he remains in custody despite being granted a GH¢10 million bail with two sureties.
- The Deputy Attorney General says bail conditions are yet to be met, and the probe continues.
Presidential hopeful Kofi Akpaloo is facing one of the biggest legal storms of his political career. The leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on September 3, 2025, and remains in custody despite being granted bail.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai confirmed that Akpaloo is being investigated for a string of financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering. The bail terms? A GH¢10 million bond with two sureties—both of which must be justified before release.
In a Facebook post, Justice Srem-Sai made it clear: Akpaloo is not walking free until those conditions are met. “He remains in EOCO custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions,” the Deputy AG stated.
Akpaloo, who ran in the 2024 general elections, was picked up from his residence in Kumasi. Known for his youth-focused campaign promises, he has steadily built visibility in Ghana’s political space despite LPG’s modest size.
Now, with EOCO digging deeper and the Attorney General’s office monitoring the case, Akpaloo’s future hangs in the balance. The investigation could reshape not only his political ambitions but also the credibility of his party heading into the next election cycle.
