Kofi Kinaata, in an interview on Opemsuo Radio monitored by News & Vibes, revealed how he was discovered by the record label High Grade Family, owned by Samini. He explained that they discovered him through his popularity, as he was well known in Takoradi.
“I had spoilt everywhere in Taadi, everyone knew me, even in Kumasi. We moved, and when I was in Taadi, my song was being played on YFM in Accra, and people were listening to my tracks. Then Samini’s manager, Tony, linked up with me. I was there for 5 years. I have some tracks with them, and the last one was ‘Awurade B3gye Steer No’.”
He explained that he left when his contract expired and had no issues with them, as was rumored. However, he added that he also left because he felt the focus of the record label had shifted, as they had portrayed themselves initially as being focused on upcoming artists.
The artist further revealed that he started music at a very young age and used to sneak out at night to watch shows.
“I started way back in Taadi in Class 4, Class 5. I realized I loved music and could easily sing people’s songs or make versions of their songs. I remember a show by… during Easter, and together with my brother and his squad, I was around 10 years old, and I was short and couldn’t see him perform. I used to sneak out at night at the age of 12 for shows, and my father used to complain.”
