Kotoka International Airport to be Renamed

The government has announced plans to rename the country’s principal international airport, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

This was announced by the Majority leader in parliament, Mahama Ayariga, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

According to him, there are plans to rename the facility Accra International Airport.

This will form part of a list of bills that will be debated by Parliament as it resumes from Christmas recess today.

 

Addressing the press, he said, “We are changing the name of our airport from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport. A bill will be brought by the Minister for Transport for the name of the airport to be changed from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.”
