Karim Zito has resigned as the head coach of Asante Kotoko
Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku has said that they were not caught off guard by the resignation of head coach Karim Zito, following the club’s exit from the MTN FA Cup.
Karim Zito stepped down on Monday, February 9, 2026, a day after the Porcupine Warriors were eliminated by Aduana FC on penalties at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The quarterfinal clash ended 4-2 in a shootout after a tense stalemate, deepening a worrying run of results for the Kumasi giants.
Speaking to Luv FM, Sarfo Duku explained that the coach’s decision was anticipated, largely due to his frustration with the team’s recent performances.
“We were not surprised, because we knew that the coach wasn’t happy with the performance of his team, and so it didn’t come to us as a surprise at all.”
“No, we had no plan to do that. We were to receive the details of what transpired in the course of the match. And then, of course, we have asked the necessary questions,” Sarfo Duku added.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will face rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
