The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has formed a committee to investigate the academic credentials of some of its staff.
The move follows a directive by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) listing certain universities as “unrecognised.”
The development was shared in a statement dated December 15, 2025.
“The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) Governing Council wishes to inform the general public, especially all our stakeholders, that a committee has been constituted to interrogate the directives of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on staff holding degrees from some ‘unrecognised universities’; and a petition against the Vice-Chancellor for having a PhD from one of those universities,” the statement said.

It further indicated that the committee will also review a petition targeting the Vice-Chancellor, who reportedly holds a PhD from one of the institutions flagged by GTEC.

“The committee is currently reviewing the petition; and Council will take other necessary steps to ensure that the University’s integrity and reputation are upheld,” the statement added.
KsTU also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and fairness in handling the issue.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our stakeholders as we work to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner,” it added.
