Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has unveiled its flagship ‘Nimde3 Hyiren’ Regenerative Electric Vehicle (REV), developed in partnership with industry players to drive sustainable development.
The electric vehicle was showcased among a range of innovations in STEM and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at the University’s 70th anniversary climax.
Vice Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Professor Gabriel Dwomoh, highlighted the university’s legacy, its partnerships, and its role in equipping students with industry-ready skills while promoting innovation, skills development, and international collaboration.
The ‘Nimde3 Hyiren’ REV, designed to reach up to 150 kilometres per hour, was developed by final-year students as part of their programme in BTec Automobile Engineering, and supervised by Professor Prince Owusu-Ansah, Head of the Automotive and Agricultural Mechanisation Department.
It is engineered with regenerative braking system, allowing the battery to recharge automatically while in motion, especially when the driver slows down or applies the brakes.
The Vice Chancellor noted the 70th anniversary of the University is a strategic turning point for stronger collaboration to drive the institution’s next phase of transformation.
“It is an invitation to our partners, the government, and the private sector to join us as we embark on the next phase of our journey. That is, focusing on digitalization, artificial intelligence, and sustainable engineering,” he said.
Reflecting on the institution’s journey from a technical institute in 1954 to a key player in Ghana’s industrialisation agenda, Prof. Dwomoh emphasized that the anniversary is not just about celebrating the past but shaping a future anchored on innovation, relevance, and impact.
That vision was crystallized in a direct appeal to stakeholders to support the university’s new strategic focus.
The 70th anniversary celebration was under the theme “70 Years of Transformative Technical Education: Honoring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future.”
