Speaking during Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Ashanti Region on September 10, Hammond praised the NPP flagbearer’s leadership qualities, work ethic, and track record in government. He argued that Bawumia’s economic acumen and policy experience make him uniquely qualified to steer Ghana through its current challenges.

Hammond also pushed back against religious bias, dismissing claims that Bawumia’s Muslim faith should disqualify him from the presidency. He urged voters to focus on competence and commitment rather than religious identity, calling such arguments “madness” and a distraction from the real issues facing the nation.

The former MP’s endorsement adds weight to Bawumia’s campaign, which has gained momentum following strong showings in the party’s internal primaries. With the 2028 elections looming, Hammond’s remarks reflect growing calls within the NPP for unity and clarity of purpose as the party prepares to face the opposition.

As Ghana grapples with economic pressures and political uncertainty, Hammond’s message was clear: leadership must be judged by merit, not prejudice — and Bawumia, in his view, is the leader Ghana needs next.
