The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has declared Saturday, November 1, 2025, as a citywide clean-up day, urging residents, traders, and drivers to participate actively in restoring cleanliness to the metropolis. The operation, which begins at 6:00 a.m., forms part of the government’s broader plan to institutionalize monthly nationwide sanitation exercises.
Key Areas Affected
The clean-up will focus heavily on Kumasi’s Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding communities. Major routes earmarked for the exercise include:
- Zoo Roundabout through Pampaso to Otumfuo Roundabout
- Otumfuo Roundabout through Acheamfour Market
- MTN Roundabout to St. Louis College
- Otumfuo Roundabout to Dr. Mensah
- Boss FM through Central Market
- Asafo Interchange and Asafo Market area
- Roman Hill Down through Abobo Station to Alabar
These routes, known for heavy commercial activity, will be closed to traffic and business operations throughout the exercise.
Temporary Closure of Markets and Roads
During the operation, all trading and vehicular activities in the affected zones will be temporarily halted to allow a smooth and safe cleaning process.
The KMA has directed market women, shop owners, transport operators, and residents to comply fully with the temporary restrictions and take part in cleaning their immediate surroundings.
Conditions for Reopening Businesses
The Assembly has made it clear that the duration of the shutdown will depend on public cooperation. If traders and business owners actively join the exercise, the cleanup is expected to conclude by 11:00 a.m. However, if participation is poor, shops and markets will remain closed until 2:00 p.m.
Call for Collective Action
The KMA’s Public Relations Officer, Henrietta A.K. Aboagye, emphasized that the clean-up forms part of a continuous effort to maintain a healthy and environmentally friendly Kumasi. Residents have been encouraged to bring cleaning tools and participate actively to ensure the exercise’s success.
The Assembly believes the initiative will not only beautify the city but also promote public hygiene, reduce waste accumulation, and reinforce civic responsibility among Kumasi residents.
