A viral video accusing church leaders of pressuring members for tithes has stirred a heated conversation across Ghana, and Prophet Kumchacha has now stepped into the spotlight with strong claims of his own.
During a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, the preacher argued that the issue goes beyond one incident, pointing to what he sees as a troubling pattern within sections of the church. He suggested that the focus in some ministries has shifted, with financial targets taking precedence over the well-being of congregants.
Kumchacha painted a picture of churches operating along corporate lines, where growth is measured less by spiritual impact and more by income.
“There is one dangerous thing staring us in the face, and it’s the fact that when some of these pastors finish Bible school, they end up opening churches and naming them after bigger and well-known churches.
“They are then given a target, and if they fail to meet that amount, the bigger churches will stop them from using their name,” he said.
He further claimed that such expectations can shape where pastors are posted, especially when financial benchmarks are not met.
“There are some churches that set tithing and offering targets for their branch pastors to meet, and if they fail to meet them, they are transferred to rural areas to preach. Most times, such pastors are given about 20 members to take care of, and their branches are handed over to pastors in the cities who are capable of meeting those targets,” Prophet Kumchacha claimed.
