Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign, has called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the general public to grant the former Assin Central MP time to reflect following the party’s recent presidential primary.

His appeal comes amid speculation on social media suggesting that Agyapong may be contemplating a break from the party. The rumors gained traction after he was absent from the NPP’s thanksgiving service held at the UPSA auditorium on Sunday, February 15.

Speaking to Citi News, Kwarteng firmly dismissed the speculation, insisting that Agyapong remains loyal to the governing party.

“He is still a member of the NPP. He has not and will not break away from the NPP. In relation to his absence yesterday at the event, he was out of town. His commitment to the party remains unshaken, unbroken, unresolved and will still remain high,” Kwarteng stated.

The spokesperson emphasized that the heated nature of the primary contest had taken a toll and that Agyapong deserved space after months of intense political engagement.

“I think out of respect, we should give people moments to also reflect,” Kwarteng said. “For a whole year, one person is accused of having orchestrated the party’s 2024 defeat and that his comments are so sour and that he has been insulting women and all manner of accusations.”

He added that the former lawmaker, like any other individual, requires time to process the emotional weight of the campaign.

“He is a human being, he has his low moments and his high moments. I think after such a tense contest like this with accusations, we should give people at least some room to reflect,” he concluded.
