Kweku Flick has broken his silence following a frustrating interruption that ended his performance prematurely at Wendy Shay’s recent “Shay Concert.”
Taking to X, the Ghanaian musician described the incident as both disappointing and indicative of a larger challenge that performers face within the music industry. He explained that he had refrained from reacting publicly during the show out of respect for Wendy Shay, whom he affectionately calls his “sissy.” Despite that, he admitted feeling upset when his microphone was abruptly switched off while the audience was still engaged.
“It was calm on my end, but cutting off my set mid-performance was disrespectful,” Flick wrote, pointing out that many in the crowd were enjoying his music and unaware of the interruption. He suggested that the disruption might have come from either the DJ or a stage operator and emphasized that such actions should not be taken lightly.
Flick also highlighted the effort behind his appearance, noting he had traveled all the way from Kumasi for the show. He stressed that artists take significant risks and put in considerable work to perform, and such incidents undermine those efforts. He warned that he may not remain as restrained if a similar situation occurs in the future.
Despite the frustration, Kweku Flick took time to celebrate the event’s overall success, offering congratulations to Wendy Shay and expressing hopes for continued achievements.
He clarified that his remarks were not intended to criticize the Shay Concert itself but to shed light on a recurring issue affecting many performers. Flick urged event organizers to handle artists’ sets with care, emphasizing that abrupt cut-offs should never become a normal practice.
