A Nigerian woman, Confidence Utomi, has revealed the marriage list her family gave to her husband, describing it as one of the most budget-friendly she has ever seen.
In a Facebook post, she shared how she stumbled upon the list while cleaning her bedroom. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed appreciation for the simplicity and fairness of the Urhobo traditional marriage process.
According to her, the list was so reasonable that her husband had no difficulty fulfilling all the requirements well before their traditional wedding day. She highlighted that the dowry itself was set at just 120 naira, with 20 naira even returned to her husband as a symbolic gesture, emphasizing that their daughters are not for sale.
Utomi praised the Urhobo culture for its approach to marriage, encouraging those married to Urhobo women to cherish them. Her post has since sparked discussions online, with many expressing admiration for the affordability and cultural significance of the practice.
She wrote on her page;
“I was cleaning our bedroom this morning when I found the Marriage List my Family gave to my Husband. Truth be told, Urhobo Marriage Bride Price List is the most budget friendly list I have ever seen,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.
“No too mush serere. I don’t know about others, but our Elders don’t give headaches when it comes to asking for their daughters hand in marriage .
When my husband saw this list, it didn’t take him time to achieve everything on this list, as a matter of fact.
He bought and presented everything before the Traditional Wedding Date and paid only the Dowry on the deal day.
