What was meant to be a simple promotional gift turned into a life-altering disaster for a Nigerian woman, who is now grappling with the aftermath of a house fire that left her with nothing.
The lady, who shared her ordeal on TikTok, recounted how a scented candle she received at her local gym led to the complete destruction of her apartment. According to her, the candle had been handed to her as part of an advertising campaign. Later that day, she lit it in her room and stepped downstairs briefly to retrieve her phone.
Moments later, chaos erupted. Her sister, who was still inside the home, began screaming that a fire had broken out. Stunned and disoriented, she rushed back upstairs to find flames already spreading through the house.
She desperately tried to reach the fire department, but her calls wouldn’t connect. Attempts to contact friends and neighbors proved futile, until she resorted to posting a plea for help on Snapchat. Eventually, emergency responders arrived—but by then, the fire had engulfed everything.
In the emotional video she posted, viewers could see the charred remains of her belongings. The pain in her voice was clear as she spoke about how everything she owned was reduced to ashes in minutes.
She admitted she never imagined a candle could cause such destruction and urged others to be cautious with similar items. Though devastated, she expressed gratitude for escaping with her life.
The video has since drawn wide attention online, with many sympathizing and reflecting on the dangers of unattended candles. Some commenters mentioned that the individual who gave out the candles might now face unexpected backlash, while others shared similar cautionary tales or pledged to stop using candles altogether.
What began as an innocent advertising gesture has now turned into a lesson on fire safety—one that this young woman says she’ll never forget.
