Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed support for José Mourinho amid growing speculation linking the Portuguese manager with a return to Real Madrid.
Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Ancelotti described Mourinho as a coach capable of restoring stability and competitiveness at the Santiago Bernabéu if he is appointed for a second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
“To be back at Real Madrid, I will be really happy for him,” Ancelotti said.
“He can do a fantastic job, as he always did in all the clubs that he was at.”
Mourinho, currently managing Benfica, has been strongly linked with a sensational return to Madrid following reports that the club has opened talks over a possible reunion 13 years after his departure.
The Portuguese coach previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and leading the club to three consecutive UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Ancelotti succeeded Mourinho at Real Madrid in 2013 and guided the club to its historic “La Decima” — a 10th UEFA Champions League title — in 2014.
Despite widespread reports linking him with a Bernabéu comeback, Mourinho has publicly denied having any direct contact with Real Madrid, insisting his current focus remains on Benfica.
Reports, however, suggest Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez views Mourinho as a strong candidate to revive the club following a disappointing campaign.
