The legal representative of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has clarified that decisions regarding the traditional widowhood rites now rest solely with the musician’s family.
This statement comes after the Kumasi High Court dismissed an interlocutory injunction filed by Akosua Serwaa, the late singer’s wife, who had sought to halt the final funeral proceedings. Presiding Judge Dorinda Smith Arthur ruled that preventing the family from managing the rites would not serve the public or the family’s interest, affirming their authority under Ghanaian customary law.
According to the lawyer, with the court declining to intervene, the family, led by the Abusuapayin, has full discretion to determine who will carry out the widowhood ceremonies. The decision underscores the central role of the deceased’s family in funeral arrangements under local tradition.
Akosua Serwaa’s attempt to pause the proceedings had been aimed at resolving certain disputes before the rites, but the court’s ruling reinforces the primacy of the family in deciding the course of the ceremonies.
The dismissal of the injunction clears the path for Daddy Lumba’s family to finalize and announce the schedule for the final funeral rites of the celebrated musician.
