Lawyer Maurice Ampaw Reveals Why He Didn’t Campaign for NPP
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has become the centre of online discussions following his revealing interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson FM, where he opened up about his strained relationship with Ghana’s ruling NPP party.
Despite being a well-known supporter of the NPP, Ampaw explained why he chose not to actively campaign for the party during the last election.
According to Ampaw, his initial plans to support the party’s campaign were derailed by what he described as a lack of respect and support from key party figures, including Chairman Wontumi and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He disclosed that although he expressed his willingness to embark on a nationwide campaign, he lacked the necessary resources to do so. He approached Chairman Wontumi for assistance, specifically requesting a vehicle to facilitate his travel across the regions. However, despite receiving assurances, his requests were never honoured.
Ampaw added that his attempts to reach Dr. Bawumia for further support were unsuccessful, leaving him feeling disregarded by the party’s top brass. This treatment, he claimed, signalled that the party did not value his contributions or presence in the campaign.
His candid revelations have sparked renewed debate about internal dynamics within the NPP, with some questioning the party’s ability to engage and support loyalists. Ampaw’s comments have also drawn attention to the broader issue of resource allocation and respect for grassroots campaigners within political parties in Ghana.
