Lawyer Kwesi Botchway Jnr has triggered the Right to Information Act, requesting information on the number of jobs created in Ghana in 2025 under the Mahama administration as well as the reported GHC600 million recovered by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The first letter to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on March 2, 2026, requested a breakdown of the jobs created, including number of jobs created in the public sector, number of jobs created in the private sector as well as details of institutions that recruited or created these jobs.
“This request is borne out of national interest, as understanding the job creation landscape is crucial for transparency and accountability in governance,” a part of the letter read.
It comes after President John Dramani Mahama stated that more than one million Ghanaians secured jobs between the first and third quarters of 2025.
He further stated that 950,000 people had exited multidimensional poverty within the same period, as he cited data from the Ghana Statistical Service while addressing the nation on Friday, February 27, 2026.
In a separate letter to the EOCO, Lawyer Kwesi Botchway requested information under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) regarding the recovery of GHe600 million by your office, also mentioned by the President in the 2026 State of the Nation Address.
He demanded the case titles and numbers in which the GHC 600 million were recovered; the persons involved in the cases in which the monies were recovered; the nature of the cases; the dates of the recovery; and the details of the bank accounts in which the recovered GHC 600 million were paid into.
“This request is made in good faith and in the interest of transparency, public accountability, and strengthening public confidence in the national fight against corruption,” he said.
