Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has reportedly passed away.

According to myjoyonline.com, the news was confirmed on January 20, 2026, by his artiste manager, Nana Poku Ashis. Details surrounding the cause of death have not yet been disclosed.

Yaw Sarpong had been out of the public eye for several years due to prolonged ill health. With a music career spanning nearly five decades, he made his mark with the release of his debut album, Adesrede, in 1981. He went on to produce several timeless gospel classics, including “Awurade Kasa,” “Tie Obiaa,” and “Wo Haw Ne Hwan.”

In recognition of his immense contribution to Ghanaian music, Yaw Sarpong was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
